From Black Voices — I’m starting to believe there is a condition called the “N-word Meltdown,” where white folks just go crazy and start repeating it over and over for no reason.
The caller wanted the good doctor’s advice on how to handle the situation, where she felt her husband’s friends were making racist comments about her.
When the woman asked if the N-word was offensive, Dr. Laura said, “Black guys say it all the time,” then went on to repeat it several times.

Every Tuesday, Carmike Cinemas plays a family-friendly flick at 10:00 a.m. Admission is $1, and popcorn and drinks are $1 each, too. Here’s the 2010
Carmike Cinemas Summer Kid’s Series is a good deal for families, especially if you tend to splurge for popcorn when you take the kids to the movies.

The Lookouts will have fireworks at tonight’s game after all.  A judge granted approval for a test to be run on Carmike Cinemas Majestic Theater 12 HVAC system.
In addition to post-game fireworks, Breakin’ Bboy McCoy will be performing, and the first 1,000 kids, 12 & under, will receive a baseball bat.
The two sides went to court today after Carmike filed suit, claiming previous Lookouts fireworks shows set off the Majestic's alarm system, forcing the theater to stop shows, evacuate the building, and reimburse patrons.
We'll have more on this developing story on WDEF News 12 at 6pm.

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- No Child Left Behind aims to ensure every child is performing at a standardized level, but what most people don't know is that the standard of judgement is raised every year.
Each year, schools are held to a higher standard to be granted the Adequate Yearly Progress status or AYP. Nine subgroups are measured for reading and math tests. If a school has even one dark cell, it cannot be considered AYP for that year. The goal is to have all white cells.
"We know that we are facing a tougher challenge when we are facing AYP every year, so certainly it is more challenging for schools to make AYP each year," says Tom Labounty, coordinator of Evaluation and Assessment.
The increase of standards to make the AYP list each year poses a considerable challenge.

After this mornings dangerously strong thunderstorms, there is the potential for more severe weather this afternoon and evening. Of even greater concern is the possibility of flooding. Parts of southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and southwest Wisconsin are already saturated from this morning’s heavy rainfall. Of most concern is Wabasha county where over 4″ of rainfall came down in spots, and most of the county received over 2″ of rain this morning.
In all seriousness and without trying to raise undue alarm, the flooding potential is indeed a dangerous situation. Any additional, heavy rainfall could make for a dangerous mess of some river valleys which have already received heavy rainfall. Stay tuned to the very latest and keep an eye on where the bulk of rain is falling if you live in a flood prone area.
There is also a Flash Flood Watch in effect through the rest of our Friday throughout southeast Minnesota, much of Iowa and much of Wisconsin. If you live in a flood prone area, be sure you have a plan to evacuate and reach higher ground in the event of heavy rainfall in your watershed today.

We will do our best to provide as many updates as possible here on the blog, on our KTTC Precision Forecast Center facebook page, and on twitter. Our first priority, however, is on-air on KTTC, where you will see updates on severe weather warnings and watches first. We will do our best to keep you updated on all fronts.
